Following the premiere of John Corigliano's Pied Piper Fantasy for flute and orchestra with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1980, I was one of a large group that celebrated the occasion with the composer and the soloist.  As one can see from these photos, it was not a staid reception, but rather an exhuberant party as befitted the enormous success of the premiere.
